Reader Renee passed on this email with a hearty recommendation. Looks like something interesting to check out...
In an Indiana Jones meets Mother Teresa adventure three middle-aged
men, former soldiers and modern-day knights travel the world delivering
life saving humanitarian aid directly into the hands of civilians and
doctors in some of the most dangerous yet beautiful places on Earth,
the front lines of war.
More than five years in the making; nearly a year of theatrical
screenings, festival showings, standing ovations and many awards, the
time has come for BEYOND THE CALL to have its big TV premiere! We are
very excited that BEYOND THE CALL will air nationwide on PBS's award
winning series INDEPENDENT LENS this Tuesday, January 23rd in the
evening. Please check your local listings for exact time in your area.
http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/beyondthecall
This will be the one-hour version. The language has been cleaned up so young people and those sensitive to naughty language can view safely. Rumor has it that BEYOND THE CALL will have additional airings on other days and times throughout this opening week (January 22 - 28), but they will be at odd hours. Check local listings.
Please keep your eyes open for the 35mm feature film version of BEYOND THE CALL, still doing the film festival circuit and theatrical run across the US and around the world through the spring, summer, and into the fall. I and the stars (Ed Artis, Jim Laws and Walt Ratterman) will try to make as many of the screenings as possible.
We are working diligently putting together the extras-packed BEYOND THE CALL DVD that will go on sale in mid February. It will be available on the film's website www.beyondthecallthemovie.com and www.wadirum.com. We are putting the finishing touches on the www.beyondthecallthemovie.com website. It will be up in time for the PBS airing. On the site you will be able to leave your email address so that we can contact you as soon as the DVDs are ready. We will not use your emails for any other reason. The initial production run of BEYOND THE CALL DVDs will be limited, so please sign up so you can be assured a DVD purchase as soon as it comes out.
Thank you so very much for your continued support and encouragement!
Any and all assistance that you can offer to help get the word out about this nationwide PBS airing through your press, organizations, websites, bloggers, etc. contacts would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Independent Lens publicist Mary Lugo at lugo@negia.net or you can contact me directly.
You can get in touch with the subjects of the film at http://www.kbi.org or http://www.onedollar4darfur.com.
Thank you,

Peaceful Warrior
Saturday October 7, 5:00 and 7:30pm
Plexus Studio, Meiners Oaks
“A lot of movies promise happiness, but most often it’s the ‘fleeting’ happiness of a thrill ride, and when it’s over, it’s over; you feel empty, and begin searching for the next thrill. Very few movies actually question what happiness is, or suggest ways that it can be sustained. Peaceful Warrior asks this question and in doing so takes you out of your mind, and those who would consider themselves sane would be ‘out of their minds’ not to see it. Peaceful Warrior is an important film, an inspiring film, and a film that could change lives.” — Sting
Conversations With God
Saturday October 21, 5:00 and 7:30pm
Plexus Studio, Meiners Oaks
Conversations With God is the true account of Neale Donald Walsch, who went from an unemployed homeless man to an “accidental spiritual messenger” and author of the popular book series of the same name. Conversations With God, which spent nearly three years on the New York Times bestseller list, sold approximately 7 million copies in 34 languages and launched thousands of discussion groups around the world.
A new documentary on 9/11 will be showing at Plexus on Saturday September 9...blurb and flyer follow.
Although independent investigations began within weeks of both Pearl Harbor and the Kennedy assassination, the same was not true of the attacks of September 11th. Most are unaware that formation of the 9/11 Commission was strongly opposed by many in Washington, including the Bush administration. It was only due to pressure from the 9/11 families, led by a particular twelve calling themselves the Family Steering Committee, that, fourteen months after the attacks, the first hearing finally began.
I've attended a HopeDance Films event, and it was a blast. Bob selects really good films, and you'll meet some great local progressive folks. Check it out!

SIR NO SIR!
OUT OF THE BLUE
and
SACRED ACTIVISM with Andrew Harvey
(see below for summaries of the films)
August 26, Saturday
in Ojai
Out of the Blue, at 5pm
at the Plexus Studio, 505 W. El Roblar Ave. in Meiners Oaks.
Dinner Break, 6:30-7:30pm
Sacred Activism with Andrew Harvey, 7:30pm
$5 each film or $10 for both films
Sir! No Sir!
This timely film by director David Zeiger won the Audience Award for
Best Documentary at the 2005 Los Angeles Independent Film Festival and
the Jury Award for Best Documentary at the 2005 Hamptons Film Festival.
Zeiger’s film dispels the myth that opposition to the Vietnam War came
strictly from outside the military in this re-telling of the
underground coffeehouses, publications, boycotts and peace marches
motivated by the anti-war GI movement. Variety has remarked, “Sir! No
Sir! rings with an exultant, even elevated tone... Perfectly timed with
new doubts about the Iraq war...”
Andrew Harvey on Sacred Activism
(2005; 66min)
Andrew Harvey, Oxford scholar and visionary, believes that our survival
depends on Sacred Activism, a fusion of profound mystical awareness,
passion, clarity and sacred practice with wise, dedicated, radical
action. This fusion, he warns, may be the sole key to preservation of
man and nature.
Check out this two film event at Plexus in Meiners Oaks on July 1st to fundraise for Hope Dance Magazine, the sustainable positive solution info and resourse. (click the image to see a larger version)

Casting Notice - Seeking real people to audition for a potential film project for a national retailer. WE ARE SHOOTING IN AND AROUND OJAI THIS WEEKEND AND HIRING PEOPLE FROM THE AREA.
We are looking for all types of everyday people 19-45 years old, who still have, (or have access to), one of the cards that they actually gave to their mom when they were young. Applicants selected could be used on national television, reading the card and possibly sharing a story about their mom. Must be available to audition in the greater Los Angeles area on April 1st or 2nd, 2006.
