local Eagle Scout awarded

from reader Shirley...congrats, Nate!

Nate1 Nate Cornelius was honored this month with the highest award in scouting, the Eagle Scout Award. A member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 36, Nate was recognized in an Eagle Court of Honor on May 5, 2007.

Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community or church service project to earn his Eagle. Nate’s project was to beautify an area in back of Hollister elementary school where parents pick up their children. This area, once covered in weeds and dirt, is now landscaped with beautiful shrubs and flowers and a redwood bench. He wishes to acknowledge Buena Tool and Hayward Lumber who donated supplies for his project.

Nate is a senior at Dos Pueblos High school. He is the son of Shirley Cornelius of Santa Barbara and Mitch Cornelius of Ojai.

Based on Sufi teachings that have been evolving for over a thousand years, we work with music, sound, breath, energy, and magnetism, to develop an awakened sense of self (which in meditation is often oriented beyond life) directed toward creative action in the world.

These techniques ignite a power source in your body, emotions, and mind, to let you virtually explode with creativity in your actions, what you bring to life, and how life responds to you.

CranioSacral for children

passing this on from a dear friend...

I am excited to announce that I am holding space for working with children. Over the past few months I have witnessed the power of CranioSacral work on children, and it is truly amazing how fast and easily their bodies unwind.

CranioSacral therapy is helpful in over all wellness for children, and more specifically for:
TMJ
Birth trauma
Headaches and Migraines
Physical & emotional trauma
ADD
Hypertension

CranioSacral Therapy is a light touch therapy, which addresses restrictions of a physiological body system called the CranioSacral system. The system consists of the bones, membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protects the brain, spinal cord, and sacrum. Using a very gentle touch the practitioner releases restrictions in the CranioSacral system, so the body can release the effects of stress and trauma and naturally heal itself. This space is deeply relaxing and it is where powerful healing takes place.

To begin with I will be working with children 5 years and older and within the next few months I will able to work on children of all ages – including new born children. The 1st session in 45 minutes for $50. The 2nd session is 30 minutes for $35.  I recommend a minimum of 3 sessions.

Love & Light,

O-Hi Frostie - swan song?

Interesting article on O-Hi Frostie (previous ojaiblog post here) in the VC Reporter.  An excerpt:

“We want Frostie to be able to stay there until March,” Leary says. “The city would gain revenue and the third party involved, the owner, would be given rent.”

City Manager Jere A. Kersnar, however, stated that the eviction was a private issue between the property owner and his lessee.

“Having said that, we’ve been talking to the operator of the O-Hi Frostie business — assuming he can’t stay where he is — [about] whether there are other places in town where he might be able to relocate, but that’s really up to him.”

But Leary argues, “When people make the statement that if an owner owns a certain piece of property he can do whatever he wants with it, that needs to be qualified.” He continues, “The city can make a public statement that would carry a certain moral and persuasive power … [The city council] have the power to write and to also interpret the rules [which] have to be balanced with public good rights.”
